Computer Crash: Windows Logon Failure
Boohoohoohooooo. Our hard drive failed--the one with all our UN-BACKED-UP Christmas photos. I'm sooooooooo bummed.
Logon to Windows: winlogon.exe application error
The instruction at "0x75978dc1" referenced memory at "0x00000000." The memory could not be "read."
Click OK to terminate, Cancel to debug.
Won't restart from the reinstallation disk, either. It looks like I either have to replace the hard drive (AGAIN) or buy a new computer. Ours is almost six years old, but a hard drive is cheaper. This is assuming the CD-rom is working correctly.
Sigh. So much for all those great photos I took of Christmas and the weatherization that I finally got off my camera. Guess I should have left them on a bit longer.
Lamenting...

Hi and sorry about your computer. I have had the same thing happen, but lucked out in finding a computer geek who somehow connected my hard drive to his computer,(as a slave?) and saved at least 90% of my data. Hope it helps and good luck.
Oh, don't give up yet! My mother thought she'd lost everything on her computer but she took it to a repair shop around here and they were able to pull off a bunch of stuff before they rebooted it all.
My two cents! Don’t lament the lost pictures unless you’ve already tried the F8 key to boot windows into Safemode or try last known good configuration. If all else fails to boot the system try to carefully remove the hard disk drive HDD from the ashes. Then add it to a working system to view the files. File recovery maybe possible using Easyrecovery-com although time consuming to say the least. If another computer is not possible then maybe invest in a USB device that will connect the HDD externally to a working systems USB port. For example I found a USB to HDD connection that allows me to remove the disk from a computer & install it as a USB device. Now it’s possible to take my computer files with me anywhere, almost anywhere.
Sincerely,
