IJ the Clown
Last year was his first time IJ acted in a play. He played the part of Dumpy in Fractured Fairytales written by one of the teachers. He did a great a great job, fitting the part with ease.
Uh, Dumpy? Should I have been surprised?
What really scared me, though, was that his mannerisms as the character were just like that of someone I know.
This weekend IJ participated in the annual fifth and sixth grade school play again. The Hotel Havoc was written by his teacher and is about an in-sore-need-of business hotel who tries to host a wedding, a funeral, and a circus at the same time. IJ played a clown.I would have loved for play photos to develop, but my digital camera doesn't like night life, so these are photos taken after the play.
There were some great lines in the play, but once again IJ amazed me with his comical performance. Even though he had few lines, he led the clowns in their jaunt across the stage. When he performed his scarf trick, he took his time on stage to emphasize the right parts of the performance--just like a real clown. Lots of kids rush their parts and don't understand timing. IJ seems to comprehend it naturally. Several kids said he and the mischievous bear were the best parts of the show.

I never knew IJ could act. I guess it's fitting his name means laughter. He lit up the stage with his goofy smile and mannerisms that were strangely similar to Dumpy in an exuberant way. This picture says it all.
