Easy Spring Cleaning for Vehicles

Works for Me Wednesday bannerWelcome to Works for Me Wednesday, the car edition, sponsored by Rocks In My Dryer.

One of the biggest drawbacks of home construction is the inability to landscape surrounding the home. Our driveway is a huge beach, minus the ocean. Sand gets everywhere: in shoes, in the house, and all over the car. Our van floors look like we've used it as a dump truck.

It's hard to keep vehicles clean, but I've found an few quick, easy touch ups to keep thorough scrubdowns to a minimum.

The Swiffer carpet flick works great on floors. When our vacuum cleaner broke, for six weeks I relied on this handy tool with a sticky paper insert to clean our rugs. I was surprised that it actually kept my dust allergies at bay, but my vigorous pushing broke the plastic handle. Rather than throw away the head, I kept it as a hand tool so I can clean vehicle floors or other compact areas. (If there is a lot of dirt, I first sweep out excess with a whisk broom or the brush side of an ice scraper.)

Cleaning the dash and gauges is a cinch with Swiffer Dusters. It is the quickest, cleanest, easiest way to clean the dash I've ever found. I was so excited the first time I tried it, I cleaned Jim's truck and my mom's car dash, too, and went in still looking for more! What can I say? I love clean things.

When done, I refresh interior air with Simple Solution sprayed on vehicle carpets and seats. As the odor and stain remover dries, musty smells disappear.

Speaking of all this, it's time to do the car again, and the van needs a good sweeping--I think my kids are dumping dirt out of their shoes onto the van floor on the way to school each morning when I can't look. Maybe it's time to teach THEM how to give the van a spring cleaning. :)

Great tips! I was thinking of the carpet flick to keep in my car but thought no way with the big handle. I might break mine off on purpose. ;) Thanks for sharing! =)
