BYB Sunday: Taxes

I would normally be at church right now, but my grandma called this morning saying her roof had a leak. Roofer Jim to the rescue. So I thought I'd take this time at home to make my Blog Your Blessings Sunday post.

Now who in their right mind would call taxes a blessing? Well... me.

I spent the day doing taxes yesterday, and they are now done. And we are getting a refund. Definitely a blessing to blog about this Sunday, especially since I had to do a lot of backlogged bookkeeping to complete them. It feels soooo good to be done. That bookkeeping had been hanging over me for quite some time. Now I feel like I can finally move on.

We discovered electronic filing a few years ago and have done away with the old fashioned paper filing, especially when we learned about free filing. You may qualify to electronically file your taxes for free. I used the Turbo Tax Freedom Edition. If you want to see if you qualify on Turbo Tax, make sure you enter their freedom edition site, not the regular Turbo Tax site.

But you know, even if we didn't yet have our taxes done, or were not getting a refund, we would still have reason to count taxes a blessing.
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil... And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit... giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God."
~ Ephesians 5:15, 18-20 NKJV (emphasis added)
Many Christian have disputed that we should not give thanks FOR all things because that would mean thanking God for bad things. They argue that the bible says we should thank God IN all things. And while it does say that, it also says to thank Him FOR all things.

Thank God for bad things?

Yup.

WHY?

Because in doing so, you affirm your faith that God can and will make good out of it--to glorify Himself and make you stronger. Definitely something to thank God FOR.

Have a good Sunday, friends. And no matter where you are with your taxes, thank God for them! A thankful heart is like medicine and will make your job doing the taxes a lot easier.

I should live long enough to get a refund! Ha!

However, I'm with you on the thankfulness part. Have written extensively about it . . . come on over and review my posts! :-)

And I blogged my blessing for today, too.
