An Essential Home Furnishing

Gun safes are one of the most essential pieces of "furniture" in our small trailer. While we sold our big table and chairs, couch and chairs, and many other extra items when we moved from our old house, we retained without question our gun safe.

Jim likes to hunt and has quite a collection of large and small weaponry. When our oldest got to be about three, I knew guns under the bed and in the closet were no longer a good idea. However, it was still years before we invested in a gun safe.

It still took a lot of convincing, but Jim finally realized it was essential the day he caught one of the young kids messing with one of his rifles. It became apparent that teaching proper handling wasn't enough. We made the purchase a priority, rearranging our finances to do it.

In went the rifles, in went the bullets, in went the collection of pocket knives.

It has proven to be one of the best investments we made. Not only does it keep our six kids safe, but it has kept my husband's equipment free from mold and moisture damage.

We've discovered one more terrific use for gun safes. Storing parent-confiscated Xbox games. It's the only locked item in the house the kids haven't been able to crack or break. :)

Take our gun safe poll.

You say large & small weaponry. That impies handguns. Are you keeping those outside of the gunsafe?

No. The couple are also in the safe along with pocket knives. I just didn't include them in the list. Good eye, Rat Boy.
