Cloth Diaper Photo Shoot
Our little girl did some modeling this past week for a cloth diaper company.
I gotta say, I've been a strict disposable diaper gal (hmm, that doesn't sound quite right. Ah, I don't wear the diapers...) but the cloth diapers ND modeled were surprisingly nice.
The woman who owns Green Mountain Diapers has a new one coming out that is super soft. She said it reminded her of petting a cat. I think so, only a freshly bathed and dried cat, it was so soft. I could barely feel it on my dry hands. She had these specially made for her company with the mom in mind, but we quickly discovered when ND kept scrunching them with her hands that babies will love the feel of them, too.
Here's some photos from the session:

(These yellow ones below were the super soft ones. See her grabbing the material? It was the only time in the session she laid still for an extended period of time.)

And what were my young boys doing all the while?

Playing Star Wars, of course!
These light sabers are as real as you can get. No plastic cheapies here. The handles are heavy and feature a real light-up saber. When you turn on the switch, the light zooms up the saber with the classic electric saber sound. When they hit each other, they make a zapping noise just like in the movies. Very cool. I don't think we'll buy any for our collection, though. I'd probably wince every time they played with them. Let's just say that the parents of these fab toys purchased extended warranties. The cloth diaper business must be doing well.
Thanks to this session, I'm impressed with modern cloth diapers. With 8-10 loads of laundry a week already and no storage for stinkies, though, I'm sticking with traditional disposables. (Yeah, yeah. Cloth diapers are traditional, not disposables. I'm working on it!)

What are they, diapers with built-in "rubber" pants?
When my kids were little, we got wool diaper covers which closed with Velcro. The wool was tightly enough woven that nothing leaked through, and the Velcro was much easier and less painful than pins.
But I understand your space limitations, which trump all. :)
Yeah, you could say that. They have a vapor barrier somewhere in the diapers. The outsides aren't the traditional crunchy plastic stuff. Some are very colorful and many are soft. There was one that had a soft tiger print. It reminded me more of a stuffed animal than a diaper. I saw on Karen's site (Green Mountain Diapers) that some have flushable liners as well.
Most of the cloth diapers had Velcro closure, but there was also a small three-armed device called a Snappi that worked in place of pins.
Gee, I could hang smelly diapers from the ceiling... (not).
Such cute pix! She's a model!
