In Recovery

So far I'm recovering well from my wisdom teeth extraction yesterday. I spent the night in my husband's recliner to keep swelling down and awoke with part of my face still numb. In fact, the left front of my lip and chin are still half numb. I suspect the doctor hit a nerve on that difficult side, but considering it has come back half way, I think the rest will return in time.

I've taken it easy most of the day and had to return to the tea bags once this afternoon when bleeding resumed. I discovered I REALLY dislike Lipton tea with a full-feeling tongue back. I took out the bags a lot sooner this time.

This afternoon I went for a short walk alone down to the llama pen. I was running a slight fever so even though it was hot outside (low 80's), the weather was heavenly. The warm sun beat on my back while a cool breeze blew over me. As I basked in God's creation, birds twittered and chipmunks scuttered about through nearby brush. The llamas ate quietly behind me. I watched a spider find dinner and carry it home, and miraculously wasn't attacked by mosquitoes or black flies. A yellow and black butterfly fluttered in the pen, past me, and up into the trees. Then a young dragon fly came along. Can you find it in this picture?

Although my face ached, half my kids pestered me to go in the pool, and the house was a disaster most of the day despite my mom's welcomed help, it was a relaxing day in which I was able to draw closer to God.

Traumatic situations are often looked upon as horrible things meant to steer clear of, particularly when pain is involved, but I'm coming to view such situations differently. While they may not be pleasant, without fail God always uses them to draw me to Him and often gives me something important I need. This time it was a needed break from my regular schedule to remember what is really important in life--Him.

Thanks again for your prayers. I appreciate them greatly.

Please check with your dentist. You may have nerve damage and infection. The numbness is caused by alveolar nerve damage or possible infection. Please check. You are in my prayers.

On the paperwork I had to sign before they did the procedure, it warned about nerve damage that could be temporary or permanent. One section mentioned lingering tingling may take up to four months to return.

I suspect because of the depth of work done on that side that the nerve was bumped. It's also possible because some of the feeling has returned that swelling has put extra pressure on the nerve thereby not allowing the numbness to completely go.

I did talk to the doc today because of my low-grade temp, but he didn't think I had an infection. I did, however, forget to mention the lingering numbness. The good news? The circle of numbness seems to be slowly shrinking.

Thanks for your warning, anonymous. I'll keep it in mind. :)
